Spine Alignment

Body weight, shape and flexibility, chronic conditions, and favored sleeping positions are variables that demand the right support to keep the spine aligned. However, most mattresses provide poor alignment.

When you sleep on your side, for example, there's more pressure on shoulders and hips. Typical U.S. mattresses resist the weight of these pressure points. They "push up" when they should be letting you sink in. Alternatively, they might also just sag all over, still not providing the right support at these points. These pressure points and sags can put the body into positions where musculo-skeletal stresses can undo the benefits of sleep.

When a mattress lacks support and causes discomfort, the sleeper can sometimes find relief by twisting their torso or raising their arm to alleviate the problem. However, this relief if only temporary. In fact, compensating with these positions can cause even more problems.

With Axel Bloom's multi-layered design, our mattresses provide proper alignment. They adjust to the contour of each person's unique body. They respond to shifts in weight and shape, distributing weight and pressure evenly. They also maintain their form to keep the body and spine perfectly aligned. Subsequently, proper body alignment brings many benefits apart from uninterrupted sleep - including reduced risk of chronic back pain, relaxed muscles in problematic areas such as the neck and shoulder, and deeper sleep cycles so you wake up with more energy.

Humidity & Heart Rate

While you sleep, as your body's metabolism does its job, perspiration is released as water vapor. Most mattresses trap and hold this moisture because air just can't circulate.

When temperature rises and moisture increases, your heart rate also increases, elevating blood pressure and causing shallower sleep. Shallower sleep means you may awaken in a sweat, unable to fall back to sleep or just wake up in the morning feeling like you didn't get enough sleep. Therefore, at a time when you should be resting, you just aren't.

This humidity also affects breathing. Again, most mattresses trap moisture and take a long time to dry, providing the perfect, moist climate for molds, mildew, and dust mites to thrive. These conditions affect breathing and contribute to allergies.

Axel Bloom mattresses are made from components that reduce humidity. A removable cover (that can be washed or dry cleaned) is highly breathable. Ventilation holes in the mattress core resist moisture build-up and accelerate drying. Meanwhile, grooves on the surface of the mattress core provide constant airflow. Together, the cover and core conduct moisture away from the body and allow air to circulate, and evaporates water vapor - resulting in a healthier, drier sleep.
